Life can sometimes be tough, especially around the holidays. Relatives can be difficult, money can be tight, loneliness can arise. To help stay positive, focus on what is GOOD in your life. What we focus on expands. Be vigilant of thoughts in the mind taking you on a negative track. There are always good things happening even if sometimes we have to look hard for them. Persevere, trust that when you stay focused on what IS good in your life, more is attracted in.
2. Celebrate Everything.
Think up something if you don’t have the obvious birthday or anniversary. The birds, the trees and flowers are dancing and singing in celebration every day. Join them. Celebrate for no reason….just because. Throw a party, celebrate yourself and all your successes this year. Celebrate something, big or small, every day. Open your arms and welcome the joy of each day.
3. Be Generous.
Generosity is a quality that fills us with joy. One of my mentors said to me once, whenever you have an opportunity, err on the side of generosity. This can come in many forms: being generous with your time, your smiles and good humor, helping a neighbor, volunteering. Be generous with yourself too. Sometimes we can be too hard on ourselves that we haven’t achieved this or that. Generosity contains compassion and love, for ourselves, as well as others.
4. Add Playfulness
Infuse a playful attitude into your interactions, errands and tasks. Skip down the street, sing as you prepare dinner, dance in your living room to your favorite music. Bring a lightness to your day.Happiness can exist for no reason at all. The more we make a practice of laughing, smiling, being playful for no reason, the more your whole life is filled moment-to-moment with joy.
5. Laugh More
Even if you laugh a lot, laugh more. Every day seek laughter, whether you purposely do the laughter meditation, laugh with friends, watch a funny video. Experiment. Try new things. Organize a laughter meditation party. Take some risks. Live, love, laugh and spread your joy.
4 Minute Meditation: Living a Life of Joy
The truly conscious person lives each moment for the sheer joy of living – there is no motive, no desire, no ambition. Sometimes it is cloudy, sometimes it is sunny. Sometimes it is quiet, and sometimes it is noisy. Things are as they are and we can start enjoying whatever IS in the moment.
Whatever the moment contains – joy, disappointment, sadness, excitement – welcome it. Don’t try to force it or change it, just allow it to be. If you have just lost your job, or failed an exam, or discovered your best friend is relocating to a faraway city, the first step is acceptance.
Now see the situation as an opportunity to create something new, to stay aware that an even better situation awaits you. The more you can accept whatever the moment brings, whether or not you like it, the more opportunities you have to tap into joy.
